HOW TO… use the Ancient China Clear Stamps

Welcome to our new series of “How to” articles that will give you ideas and tips about the use of some CoraCreaCrafts products!

As the Chinese New Year is here, we thought of highlighting a product related to this occasion. You might remember that our November subscription box was all about „Ancient China” and we were delighted to see many creative ideas through social media that you shared with the world.

Now we take our Ancient China clear stamps, featuring a mighty dragon, a traditional lantern, buildings and symbols out of this box and show you how some talented artists and our shop owner, Coralie, went creative with them!

1. Prepare your coloring tools!

For her journal page, Lanna (@lanna.journaling) used many of our „Ancient China” products. But what really stood out for us was how she used the clear stamps. She first stamped them on blank papers then colored them individually! Rather than just stamping on the actual journal page, Lanna gave depth and lovely tones for those Chinese buildings and the lantern. Her completed spread depicts a small Chinese village in the mountains, surrounded by cranes (from our rice paper).

2. Make it 3D!

It’s all about making your art literally stand out from the paper: Susana (@suchi_journalive) showcased how you can make a layered background that has a 3D effect. She not only used our Great Wall of China washi tape to make it look like it pops out from the journal but she also added some buildings with double sided adhesives. Susana’s artwork comes alive as we watch the dragons fly over a winter and a spring landscape.

3. The artistic way

Hwaufranc (@hwaufranc) created a romantic scene using the transfer stickers and the clear stamps of the „Ancient China” box. At first we thought that the stamps would be plain background motives but then she grabbed her watercolors and gave the temple and the lantern a beautiful twist. When thinking about experimenting with your materials, don’t forget to try this: stamp first, paint later! And the result will be simply elegant.

4. Always a good background

Even a smaller space allows you to get creative with clear stamps. Just look at this mini spread from Jilian (@bookworm_journal_). She used the Chinese Coins Wooden Stamps to decorate the pages behind the transfer stickers and the rice paper pieces. A lot of things are going on but there is no tiny space she could not fit with more types of materials!

  1. Ancient tags

Our shop owner, Coralie posted this video back when she gave some hints and sneak peeks about the „Ancient China” box. You can make your own tags or bookmarks by stamping on blank papers and then decorate around them with washi tapes or stickers. To make it look like more vintage, just grab your ink pads and disperse some ink on the paper (best on the edges). The other side can be covered with any scrapbook papers, stickers or even rice papers (as Coralie shows it). Punch a hole, use some string and there you have your own, China-inspired tags that you can also use as bookmarks, for your lunar new year celebrations or who knows, maybe for your Christmas tree as ornaments! (Yes, we’re mentioning Christmas this early!)
